I remember the most random things from my early childhood school years. For example, one of my favorite English teachers taught her students that a preposition was "anything a squirrel can do to a tree." Random. So, here I am these many years later thinking about that teacher and you guessed it, prepositions -- two in particular: over and on.
Over and on -- two tiny words that have enormous impact on a person's life, especially when it has to do with job loss. Think for a moment...when's the last time you heard someone say "get over it!" when speaking about job loss (or any other loss for that matter). I hear people say these words frequently..."I'm having a hard time getting over losing my job...when will I get over my job loss?...I just can't get over the fact that they let me go." Over!
Then, there's the "on" preposition to reckon with. You know, it's an FSW (frequently said word). Move on. You've got to move on. She can't seem to move on. He needs to move on. I'll move on. We've all got to move on. Lose your job? Move on! On!
Consider this...maybe one doesn't get "over" anything...maybe you just wake up one morning and realize that you're finally ready to get on with it and move on from the "over" in your life. Maybe getting "over" something happens when you tell yourself that it is time to let go of what was and look forward to what you have to work with this day and the tomorrow's of your life.
Over. On. Anything a squirrel can do to a tree. Prepositions. Are you over your job loss? Have you moved on?
